I spent a month at the Panamá Canal one time. A waiter in the hotel restaurant called another guy over to our table so the second guy could hear me place my order for a chicken dish. My Southern accent trying to speak first-year Spanish caused a lot of laughter in that restaurant. I chose to feel like an ambassador rather than an idiot.
